EPIC's purpose is to provide quality educational policy analysis to help improve schooling for all students. EPIC supports research on a range of issues in the areas of high school-to-college articulation, large-scale assessment models, and other policy initiatives designed to improve student success.
The current focus of EPIC's research stems from the need for a more robust and comprehensive definition of college readiness, one that leads to new tools, methods, and indices that will help students understand how ready for college they are and will help high schools make systematic improvements to increase the number of college-ready students who graduate each year. Dr. David Conley, CEO and Principal Investigator for EPIC, is a leading authority on the issue of college readiness. The figure at right outlines Dr. Conley's model of the four necessary components of college readiness, which are further defined in his report (prepared for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation): Redefining College Readiness.
