What Administrators Can Do to Support the Project

District superintendents can support the South Carolina Course Alignment Project (SC CAP) by identifying high schools that may be interested in participating in the course alignment study. You may nominate one or more high schools in your district by emailing us the name of the high school, and the principal contact information. Principals of participating high schools will be asked to serve as liaisons between EPIC and their faculty. Liaisons assist with disseminating information and identifying appropriate courses and instructors to participate in the first phase of this project, a course alignment review. Faculty will participate in the alignment review by submitting course documents online, which will then be reviewed by content experts and compared to corresponding postsecondary courses to determine their degree of alignment. A particular benefit to participating high school teachers is the use of the online SyllabusMaker, a tool to help teachers create a high-quality syllabus that reflects the course instruction and expected learning goals. Our goal is to receive at least one syllabus from each participating school for the content areas of English/language arts, mathematics, and science so that we will have a large representative sample of documents to analyze.

The success of this project depends on the participation of a representative selection of high schools in each region of South Carolina.

We want to ensure that the study includes the curriculum at your district’s high schools and that your district’s goals and programs are appropriately represented in the overall findings regarding course alignment in South Carolina. Therefore, we strongly encourage the participation of your district.
