Updates and News

December 18, 2007 - As 2007 draws to an end, the CREST project has successfully completed its first round of site visits. EPIC researchers visited a total of 18 schools between October 1 and December 13 and are slated to visit an additional 12 schools in early 2008. Site visits have taken researchers across the United States, from rural Kentucky to the heart of Los Angeles, visiting large comprehensive high schools and small themed magnet schools, schools that have existed for dozens of years and some schools that recently graduated their first class of seniors. In spite of all of their differences, all the schools shared in a remarkable record of developing college-readiness among their students, and all were eager to learn more about how to best prepare students for success in college.

Data reviewed to date have provided vivid examples of the ways in which schools develop the facets of college-readiness among students, and have provided strong support for Dr. Conley's model of college-readiness. We look forward to the next phase of CREST, which will culminate in the development of an online instrument that schools nationwide will be able to use to examine and improve their own college-readiness programs.

Researchers Study Select High Schools to Identify Key Attributes of College Readiness

"High schools are paying greater attention to the challenge of preparing an ever-increasing proportion of students for postsecondary education. To help high schools achieve this goal, EPIC will conduct a national project designed to identify the factors present in high schools that do an outstanding job of preparing students for success in college and will develop a tool to help other high schools incorporate these strategies into their own programs."
